Jerome Galeyrand
Conviction and discretion
Since his installation in 2001, Jérome Galeyrand cultivates his 5 hectares with conviction and discretion.
With Jérome Galeyrand, we enter the backstage of the beautiful Côte de Nuits, where the vine is cultivated with conviction and discretion. But for several years now, true wine lovers have not been mistaken.
"We work with fresh grape juice without any technological or oenological process", he likes to explain. By this he means: no industrial yeast, no glue, no enzymes, few sulfites. The objective here is to reveal the terroir without modifying the intrinsic nature of the grape.
The vineyard is cultivated in organic and biodynamic culture. The vines are plowed, the harvest is manual and the lunar cycles are respected.
"We use only copper, wettable sulfur, herbal teas and natural products," he says before adding, "For a wine to be true to its terroir, the soil must be alive."
Once again, his wines literally thrilled us starting with the great cuvée Les Retraits obviously, simply magnificent. But the other cuvées are not to be outdone, and in particular the two Marsannay wines, which are frankly amazing. All the wines have this texture, this silkiness, this depth that allow to really appreciate the great complexity of this ancestral terroir. Today, we confirm what we said in previous years, Jérome Galeyrand produces some of the most exciting Gevrey-Chambertin of the appellation. But shhh, keep the secret to yourself.
