Micro cuvées, big terroirs!

A young Californian with undeniable talent, Jonathan Purcel has become one of the key players in Burgundy's new wave.

In 2017, he began to vinify his first grapes, pretty Beaujolais Gamays and a little Viognier. But in 2019, Jon finally succeeded in making his first Pinot, on a magnificent Pommard terroir. Subsequently, he picked up other Pinots, notably those that enabled him to make Gueule D'Amour. An immediate, intense, pleasure-driven cuvée. It's made without any inputs, without sulfites from start to finish.

And then, as connections were made, Jonathan was able to get his hands on beautiful grapes from prestigious Côte de Beaune terroirs. Even though the cost of grapes has soared in recent years, he doesn't hesitate (passion is often too strong...) and goes for it. The result is a number of ultra-high-quality micro-cuvées: "Shadows", a superb Saint Aubin 1er Cru from the La Combe parcel; "La Sauvage", another Saint Aubin 1er Cru from the famous Chatenière parcel; and "Superposition", a delicate, deep Puligny Montrachet from the Trézin vineyard.

The whole range is truly of a rare quality. The wines are full of energy, and even if the quantities available are minimal, they prove that Jonathan is one of Burgundy's greatest talents today.

We tasted all of his 2024 vintages (and a few 2023 and 2022 extended aging wines) a few days ago and were literally thrilled by the range's accuracy, originality, and precision. We all know that the 2024 vintage produced tiny quantities, but Jonathan has worked miracles with his grapes. So, obviously, the alcohol levels are quite low (no wine above 12.5%), but honestly, what a pleasure!

We present 10 cuvées, including 2 new additions. Here are the details: 

• Alibi - Bourgogne Aligoté 2024: the little bombshell of the tasting. 
• Salt & Pepper 2024: The beautiful originality of 2024! A blend of Pinot, Chasselas, and Merlot. A light, easy-drinking juice with beautiful aromatics.
• T Qui Rit 2024: Superb Pinot Gris macerated in Aligoté juice. Clear, elegant, simply delicious.
• Totem 2024: 100% Riesling
• Amour Vache 2024: A very successful blend of Pinot, Gamay, and Aligoté. Incredibly drinkable.
• Lucky Star Mercurey 2024: simply the best Mercurey we've tasted this year.
• Rêve Américain Pommard 2024: a great, powerful Pommard with lots of character that will go a long way.
• Shadows - Saint Aubin 1er Cru La Combe 2024: intense and fresh, minimal quantities.
• La Sauvage - Saint Aubin 1er Cru La Chatenière 2022: aged for two years, a real bombshell!
• Superposition - Puligny Montrachet Le Trezin 2023 and 2024: THE WINE!
