Wolber Bastian
We have been asking Bastian Wolber for several vintages, and we are very happy to finally be able to present his wines to you.
Bastian Wolber is German. This detail is not insignificant when you consider that his brother is at the helm of the Wasenhaus estate, the benchmark for natural wine across the Rhine, and one of the most respected names among the new generation of European winemakers who work without a safety net but with formidable standards.
Before settling in Burgundy, Bastian trained with two major figures in French viticulture: Jean-Yves Bizot and Jean-François Ganevat. Two legends, two demanding visions of wine, two schools of rigor and freedom that have profoundly influenced his approach. From them, he learned patience, precision, respect for the grape, and the idea that a great wine is never forced.
When he arrived in Burgundy, Bastian naturally followed in the footsteps of the new guard of Burgundy natural wine. He initially worked in the same winery as Jon Purcell, sharing not only a space but above all a vision: lively, honest wines without artifice, where the winemaker's touch is always at the service of the juice. This intellectual and practical affinity also brought him closer to other names that we particularly like here, such as Dandelion, Vin Noé, and Chaume des Lies.
In 2022, Bastian took a decisive step forward: he moved into his own winery in Volnay. This strong foothold in the heart of the Côte de Beaune finally allowed him to fully realize his personal project. The wines are made with great restraint, in keeping with his approach: careful harvesting, gentle extraction, precise aging, always guided by the search for balance and clarity.
Bastian Wolber's wines perfectly reflect this approach. They never seek to show off. They favor accuracy, energy, and drinkability, with that sense of quiet mastery found in winemakers who know exactly where they are going.
We are particularly pleased to be able to offer you his vintages today. They are fully in line with the editorial policy of Mes Bourgognes: sincere, committed wines, produced by winemakers whose background, vision, and high standards speak as loudly as the bottles themselves.
