Maison Skyaasen: New vintage, new slap!

A few years ago, we presented the first vintage from a small house in Meursault. Joachim and Olivia from Skyaasen had delighted us with their magnificent Savigny-lès-Beaune "Les Bas Liards" 2018. Established in Burgundy since 2017, they made their first vintage in the former cuverie and vaulted cellars of their house. On the strength of this highly successful first vintage, they had produced three new cuvées in 2019.

Joachim grew up in Norway and Olivia in San Francisco. They met in California during their university studies. Joachim initially worked in finance, while Olivia turned to humanitarian work, which remains her main occupation today.

This confidential micro-production is a pure marvel. Today, all the wines are vinified without sulfur, and the Pinot Noir grapes are harvested whole, as simply as possible, then aged in old barrels to avoid any wood marking.

2024 marks a return to greater tension and freshness. At Skyaasen, precision winemaking and chiselled ageing deliver elegant, clean wines that never show off. Lacey reds, vibrant whites. This is the house style: contemporary Burgundy, clear, straightforward, without artifice.

Bourgogne Blanc 2024

A pure, straightforward Chardonnay, with notes of fresh lemon, wet stone and white flowers. Clean, tractable, no make-up on the palate. Ideal today.

Bourgogne Rouge 2024

The Pinots come mainly from vineyards in the Volnay commune, on light clay-limestone soils that produce elegant, fruity reds. The "Volnay" stamp is clearly visible in the style: finesse, floral, supple tannins.

Pernand-Vergelesses white 2024

The most mineral of the house's white cuvées. Saline profile, vertical, taut. Beautiful bitterness on the finish, which calls to the table. A serious white with discreet charm.

Monthélie rouge 2024

A delicate, subtle Monthélie. Fine, slender on the palate, with lovely powdery tannins. Don't wait too long to drink it: it's a wine for immediate pleasure.

Pommard 2024

The most structured cuvée. Black fruit, stone, sweet spices. The substance remains fine, without rusticity, with good length. A modern Pommard that favors elegance over power.
