As every year, we salute the quality of Sylvain Pataille's work. Serious and consistent. After long ageing and beneficial cellaring, he presents us with his delicately fruity 2023.
In Marsannay, Sylvain Pataille embodies an uncompromising vision of Burgundy. Trained as an oenologist and a winemaker by passion, since the early 2000s he has been crafting wines that are deep, vibrant and always sincere. With some twenty hectares cultivated biodynamically (without certification), his meticulous work in the vineyard and cellar has made him a key figure in the northern Côte de Nuits.
Although he first made a name for himself with his work on Aligoté - whose reputation he helped to restore - it is now his Marsannay reds that impress with their precision, finesse and ability to express the diversity of the appellation's terroirs.
Pataille has played a major role in revealing the potential of Marsannay's best climats, too often considered "minor" in Burgundy. Thanks to demanding viticulture, gentle vinification and long ageing, he succeeds in extracting from each lieu-dit its own identity, without ever falling into caricature or overkill.
His range includes accessible, juicy wines such as Bourgogne rouge and Marsannay rouge, perfect for discovering the winemaker's signature style. And cuvées with character and assertive personality:
- Longerois, taut and racy
- Clémengeots, more fleshy
- Clos du Roy, structured and deep
- L'Ancestrale, ambitious and designed for ageing
- Fleur de Pinot, very old vines of fine Pinot vinified in infusion, aged for a long time. A rare and precious wine
All these wines place Pataille at the very top of the appellation, and show just how much Marsannay can produce great Burgundy reds, vibrant and singular.
