Chapuis & Chapuis
Back to basics
It's the story of two brothers who decide to get together and create something that makes sense;
Chapuis & Chapuis is clearly one of the rising stars among wine estates. Year after year, its reputation continues to grow, driven by precise, clean wines and a very "modern Burgundy" vision: straightforward, easy-to-drink wines that respect their terroirs without pretension. We have been following the estate for several vintages, and 2024 confirms its trajectory.
A quick word on the 2024 vintage, which caused our winemaker friends so much suffering. The capricious spring and severe selections reduced volumes, but the quality is there: just the right ripeness, fine structure, and mouth-watering acidity. The result: luminous wines that are easy to read when young, with the substance to evolve well. But, of course, this is rare... And it will be for all 2024 wines.
But before getting to the heart of the matter, let's go back a few years... This is the story of two brothers who decide to get together and create something that makes sense. It's the story of a return to the roots, to the family land of Côte de Beaune. Well, especially for Romain, who spent a lot of time on the move, from Lebanon to Australia, before returning to France. The story began in 2009, when Jean-Guillaume and Romain, former kids from Aloxe-Corton, decided to set up their wine merchant house in the heart of Burgundy, in Pommard, not far from where they grew up and where their roots are.
They select beautiful grapes, often with organic labels, and work in the simplest way possible: vinification without sulfur, indigenous yeasts, very little intervention, no filtration and a lot of patience. The grapes are allowed to express themselves and the terroir to infuse.
At Mes Bourgognes, we've been following their adventures from the very beginning. In 2009, we presented their very first wine, a lovely Bourgogne Chardonnay. After that, we lost touch a little, but kept a close eye on each of their vintages. We've come to appreciate their steady progress, year after year. Until the 2022 vintage, which convinced us once and for all that the two brothers had really found their style, their identity. 2023 is another milestone, and we're delighted. The same goes for the first 2024s in short pants, frisky, frisky and full of energy!
Both the whites (Rully, Chorey, Corton Charlemagne) and the reds (Bourgogne, Cotes de Nuits, Aloxe-Corton, Chorey, Pernand, Corton...) seduced us with their energy, purity and brilliance. These are wines that ring true, reflecting the quest for authenticity of these two brothers, together, at home, where they belong.
