Some career paths unfold simply, almost naturally. Romain Lançon's began with Alexandre Jouveaux, a leading figure in the world of fine natural wines in the Mâconnais region. It was a demanding apprenticeship, requiring precision and intuition, which left a lasting impression. In 2023, Romain acquired a small 60-acre plot in Chapaize, planted with Pinot and Gamay. He harvested his first grapes, producing barely 7 hectoliters, and this micro-harvest was enough to make it obvious: he settled down and created his own estate, Les Farbottes.

There are also encounters that owe nothing to chance. The one with Romain came about thanks to Pierre Mang, another incredibly talented winemaker from the Mâconnais region. It was Pierre who introduced him to us in early November, convinced that his work and approach would impress us. He was right: from the very first exchanges, the sincerity of the project and the energy of the young estate resonated with us.

The following year, things started to move quickly. Romain found two new plots, in Jalogny and in the commune of Château. Superb vines, untouched by chemicals, planted on cool terroir at an altitude of 400 meters. He also acquired a final piece of vineyard in Igé. The puzzle was coming together, coherent and alive, as if it had been waiting for a young winemaker to come and put it together.

2025 marks a new milestone: 70 acres of Pinot Noir planted in the spring, a winery project that will soon see the light of day, and still the same desire to keep things simple, fair and pure. For now, Romain makes his wine in the cellar of his house in Jalogny. No frills, no fuss: just a man, some grapes and a lot of listening.

For his first vintage, he released only one wine. Just 900 bottles, from Chapaize. A rich terroir, worked without plowing, harvested at full maturity, as Jouveaux and Michel Guignier taught him. In the cellar, the same philosophy applies: zero intervention, no temperature control, nothing but patience and trust in living organisms.

We were thrilled with the result. Behind its humble appearance, the Les Farbottes cuvée reveals a deep, dense wine, imbued with superb energy. It has a real personality, already assertive, and a human encounter as memorable as the juice itself.
