The 2023 wines from the Marquis D'Angerville estate have just arrived, and it is a real pleasure to rediscover these great Volnay terroirs in such a straightforward and luminous vintage. Here we are at the heart of what Volnay can produce at its finest: slender, deep reds with that very special texture that combines energy, subtlety, and purity of fruit.

The estate has produced a series of major premier crus, each with its own personality but all characterized by the same precision in vinification and the same crystal-clear interpretation of the terroir. Clos des Ducs, Champans, Fremiet, Clos des Angles: four legendary climats, four vibrant expressions of a vintage that emphasizes finesse over power.

These are beautiful, sought-after bottles, available in extremely limited quantities, but which perfectly represent the soul of Volnay.

Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs 2023

A legendary monopole, this very chalky hillside terroir produces one of the village's most straightforward and aristocratic Volnays. Chiseled on the palate, with fine but dense tannins and impressive length. A red wine of absolute precision, made for long aging.

Volnay 1er Cru Champans 2023

Soil combining clay and limestone scree, offering a fuller and deeper Volnay. Black fruit, silky texture, generous but serious tannins. A fleshy, generous premier cru with a beautiful earthy dimension.

Volnay 1er Cru Fremiet 2023

A stony hillside that produces a slender, floral, very pure wine. Delicate profile, vibrant freshness, slender palate. This is the quintessential airy Volnay, all finesse and precision.

Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Angles 2023

A terroir on the corner between mid-slope and bottom of the hillside, combining finesse and structure. Fresh red fruit, mineral tension, tight but elegant tannins. A dynamic, more vertical Volnay with beautiful energy.
