Bruno Clair
The Great Terroirs of Côte de Nuits
The famous Bruno Clair estate is one of the recognized references of Côte de Nuits thanks in particular to its prestigious appellations: Bonnes-Mares, Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques and of course the grandiose Chambertin Clos de Bèze which stands out each year as one of the most beautiful successes of its name.
Everyone, or almost, knows the famous Bruno Clair estate, but few know that the estate has undergone a small revolution in recent years. Bruno Clair's estate was founded in 1979 and has grown little by little to now comfortably spread over just over 20 hectares. In 2010, Edouard, the eldest son, arrived at the estate and took on more and more responsibilities. He was joined by Margaux and Arthur in 2018. Today the children each have their role. Edouard is responsible for the vines and winemaker. Margaux takes care of the expeditions but also of the vines. Arthur is responsible for the cellar and ensures the vinification with Edouard. In short, the 3 children are therefore in charge of the entire estate and have implemented serious changes which are now bearing fruit.
The estate is not certified in organic farming, but on "easy" vintages (like 2019 or 2020), they only use natural products with strong copper dose reductions. In recent years, the estate has vinified with more whole harvests (from 20 to 50% depending on the appellation). The red wines ferment in open wooden vats for a fortnight, with a very low dose of SO2. The extraction is adapted according to the character of the appellation. They are then aged for 18 to 20 months in oak barrels before being bottled.
In the end, the wines of the Bruno Clair estate are very beautiful classic Burgundies built for aging and endowed with remarkable depth, elegance and finesse of texture. The new generation has made some slight changes that bring the wines a little more finesse and energy. It is quite remarkable on this 2019 vintage that we present to you today.
